Most people THINK they know all the rules that relate to bicycling in Oregon...until they attend our FREE legal clinic. Join us for an intensive clinic concerning Oregon bicycle and pedestrian laws, insurance information, and what to do if you’re in a crash. Ray Thomas literally wrote the book on Oregon's bike-related laws. It's called "Pedal Power" and all attendees of his 60-minute clinic receive a free copy. Legal Clinics are in conjunction with Swason, Thomas, Coon, and Newton. There's no place to park your bike at the grocery store. - Your kid can't bike to school because of one dangerous road crossing. - Your neighborhood association is fighting a bike-friendly project. The problem is clear. The solution might even be obvious to you but how do you get others on board? How do you get the problem solved? The Bicycle Transportation Alliance has been advocating for better safer streets since 1990. In this free one-hour clinic, a BTA advocate will share some of the lessons we've learned about how to get your voice heard -- how to get your community's problems solved. Topics covered include messaging, defining success, power mapping, identifying allies, and pressure vs. persuasion. This month’s Advocacy Clinic will be presented by Lisa Frank, BTA’s Advocate focused on Washington County. Questions? Baby, it’s (going to be) chilly out. Come chill with the BTA while you munch on our member-only chili (we’ll have plenty this year) and enjoy an adult beverage or two. This is your chance to celebrate the season with the BTA and let us show you our gratitude for your support over the last 25 years. Seriously, let’s party! The party will be bumpin’ at the Bicycle Transportation Alliance office. Staff will be making our special chilis of the vegan and meat varieties, accompanied by Grand Central bread, homemade cornbread, and delicious beverages, including egg nog and other hoppy beverages to get you in the holiday mood! Festivities will include: - Photo Booth to get your picture taken with BTA staff - Advocacy stations to ask your burning questions and engage with our advocates - Giving stations where you can support the BTA through Willamette Week’s Give!Guide

New to riding a bike and want to know the rules of the road? Been riding a long time, but want a refresher? Our commute clinics are a great resource for riders of all skill levels. They cover basic rules of the road; best riding practices, including positioning and hand signals; basic bike maintenance; and gear and clothing tips. This Commute Clinic will also spend a little extra time talking about wet weather riding, clothing and gear options than our traditional commute clinic. The Clinic will consist of a 1 hour presentation, and we will have extra time for socializing and asking questions. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. This event is open to all women, female-identifying, trans, and gender-nonconforming people who enjoy biking (or think that they might). We can also provide translation services upon request. Please contact nicole@btaoregon.org with your request at least 48 hours in advance of the clinic. También podemos ofrecer servicios de traducción bajo petición. Por favor, póngase en contacto con nicole@btaoregon.org con su solicitud. Y con 48 horas de anticipación antes de la clínica.
