Rally at Wyden's office- ask him: which future will you choose? Clean drinking water, vibrant forest ecosystems, world class recreation opportunities? OR ...ramped up clearcuts on 2.6 million acres of federal land and the undoing of bedrock environmental laws? Join Bark and conservation allies across the state at a rally to protect western Oregon's public lands, clean rivers and wild fish runs on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 12:30-1:30 at Holladay Park (NE 11th and Multnomah) in northeast Portland. Legislation co-sponsored by Rep. Peter DeFazio passed through the House of Representatives last week that would effectively privatize 1.6 million acres of public forestland in western Oregon and transfer this land into a "logging trust" to be clearcut in perpetuity. Sen. Ron Wyden is about to release his own version of this bill that would drastically increase public lands logging. We need to be clear to Senator Wyden: any bill that that degrades drinking water supplies, erodes salmon runs, increases clearcuts and weakens environmental safeguards is not acceptable and will not lead to sustainable economies for rural Oregon. On the contrary, this is exactly the kind of boom and bust logging that got us into this mess in the first place. Join us on October 1st and demand REAL solutions and real leadership from Wyden. See you on the streets! http://www.facebook.com/events/466989820083225/
