HOLLOW SIDEWALKS RELEASES YEAR OF THE FIELD MOUSE ON HIGHSCHOOL RECORDS High School Records is sponsoring the record release for 'Year of the Field Mouse' sophomore effort of Hollow Sidewalks. Heading the bill is Slutty Hearts, a swoony, dark punk quartet from Portland, OR, who is also part of the growing High School Records family. Shadowhouse, another local Portland darkwave band rounds out the bill. This show launches the record and Hollow Sidewalks' West Coast Tour. Year of the Field Mouse marks an ongoing journey for Nora Murphy Hughes. She has done what many Portlanders are doing—she cutting back the booze and subbing harder drugs for more weed and with good results. The 60s inspired, sunny psych rock, laced with post punk riffs, is a testament to this. “Volcano,” their upcoming video release, is named after Hughes’ vaporizer. Their sophomore album signals departure from the darker and more booze-addled Ain’t No Way (2014). Of the transition, Hughes says “It’s definitely a brighter, happier record than the last one. Overall there’s a more optimistic tone.”

Traditionally held during CMJ Music Marathon, College Day aims to fill a day with great programming and speakers from and related to college and non-commercial radio, allowing both new and experienced voices from the radio world to talk about the issues that matter most to them. Following the 35th anniversary of CMJ Music Marathon, College Day On Tour takes the spirit of College Day and translates it to be more personal and regional across the country, aiming to invigorate the CMJ College Radio community in every pocket of the country. CMJ will be taking over Holocene with a full day of programming dedicated to emerging talent at college and non-commercial radio, focusing on the voices, ideas and music that make the Pacific Northwest the storied scene it is. In addition to live music throughout the day, guests will experience innovative workshops, presentations and interviews with key members of the music and radio world from the Pacific Northwest and beyond. They will also have a chance to join in the dialogue on stage and around the room with breakout sessions and one-on-one opportunities. A catered lunch will be provided for all ticketed guests.
