The theme of this year’s banquet is “Love is in the Air ~ Marriage Equality for All!” Robin Brand, nationally known political strategist, will be the keynote speaker. Oregon Secretary of State, Kate Brown, will emcee the event and be honored for her service to Oregon with the first annual Neuberger Award. The banquet gala, named in honor of former U.S. Senator Maurine Neuberger, is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the DPWC and features a number of popular activities, including a silent auction, an oral auction, and Wall of Wine. The Neuberger Award will be given annually to an Oregon Democrat who has distinguished themselves by going above and beyond in promoting Democratic Party values through leadership, commitment and service. Keynote speaker Robin Brand is the president of RMB Strategies, a political consulting firm based in Washington, DC. She’s held numerous senior positions with national LGBT organizations working to increase LGBT representation at all levels of government. Early in her career, Robin served in a variety of leadership positions with the Democratic Party, including Eastern Political Director and Director of State Party Development at the DNC. There, she developed state party coordinated campaigns and fundraising strategies. Robin was also Executive Director of the Washington Democratic Party and served as campaign manager for U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell’s successful re-election in 2012. The inaugural Neuberger Award will be presented to this year’s banquet emcee, Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown, recognizing her for over two decades of service on behalf of all Oregonians; her enduring commitment to Democratic Party values; and her longtime steadfast support of LGBT rights. In addition to her present office, Kate has served in multiple capacities during her long career in public service. Before serving numerous terms in the Oregon House and Senate, she was a practicing attorney assisting children and families. She was the first woman to serve as Oregon Senate Majority Leader, a post she held from 2004-09, when she was elected to her current office. As Secretary of State, Kate pushed to restore integrity to the state’s initiative system, removed barriers to voter registration, removed barriers to voting, streamlined business registration and refocused state audits on program efficiency and effectiveness, producing innumerable benefits to the citizens of Oregon.
