With the release of the State Department’s final environmental impact statement, this is a crucial moment to protest Keystone XL. Join us Monday evening to send the message to President Obama that Keystone XL fails his climate test and he must reject it. I’ll be bringing some candles and signs (links available after you sign up), but please bring some as well if you can.

Show up at the Forest Service Regional Office in downtown Portland, 1220 SW 3rd Ave (the Federal Building), from 2pm-3pm, on Thur. Nov. 7th. Bark has filed for an emergency injunction, but we still need your help. We need you to get the Forest Service to withdraw its wet-weather waiver right now, and to not permit any out of season logging. On Tuesday the Forest Service granted special permission to international logging company Interfor to begin logging the Jazz Timber Sale. Already one unit has been logged today (Wed.), in spite of wet weather that exacerbates soil and watershed damage. Let them know the public does not accept this backhanded move. If you can help make phone calls about the rally, call the Bark office at 503-331-0374. Wear brown to represent the mud flowing into the Clackamas and Collawash Rivers! Congress comes back into session on Monday September 9, and will be debating President Obama's bill for the authorization to use military force against Syria. On that day, at 4pm, we will gather at the Federal Building in downtown Portland, the symbol of the federal government in our city. We will surround the building, forming a human chain, and raise our voice in chant and song to let the our Congress know that we do not support war! As concerned and responsible citizens, we condemn unilateral U.S. military attacks on Middle Eastern and North African nations. We condemn the military-industrial complex that salivates over profits from the exportation of war. We condemn President Assad for the brutal atrocities committed against the Syrian people. We condemn the Syrian rebels for the atrocities they have committed against the Syrian people. We choose the side of peace and nonviolence. This is not a pro-Assad rally. This is not a pro-rebel rally. This is a pro-peace rally. Please be respectful of the intentions of this event. The code of conduct for this event is family friendly. Nonviolent discipline is expected of all participants. We ask that all participants and bystanders respect this code of conduct at all times. All masks are discouraged for the sake of transparency and accountability. This action is endorsed by Portland Oregon War Resistance, Cascadians Against War, Individuals for Justice, IVAW Oregon, the Oregon Progressive Party, Whitefeather Peace House, Oregon Peace Institute, PeaceVoice, and Students United for Nonviolence. http://www.facebook.com/events/226611050825396/
