How do disparate and inequitable property taxes influence our choices about the neighborhoods we live in? Oregon property taxes, through a series of ballot measures intended to reduce taxes for homeowners and make them more predictable, have become inequitable, overly complicated, and in need of a bold overhaul. Join us for a panel discussion with State Representative Tobias Read and Eric Chambers, Senior Manager for City of Gresham’s Mayor Shane Bemis. We will learn about Oregon’s complicated property tax system, why undoing the current system is important, and how it will be done. This event will evaluate the findings and recommendations of City Club’s report, "Reconstructing Oregon's Frankentax: Improving the Equity, Financial Sustainability, and Efficiency of Property Taxes," and, more importantly, try to make sense of the tax system and its impact on our City and State. Free for members; $5 for nonmembers. RSVP: http://bit.ly/1l4Kr4u http://www.facebook.com/events/426590280806836/

As we prepare for the upcoming Interim Session of the Oregon State Legislature, we'd like to get together with our friends, hear President Obama dish out some plans, and discuss why we're glad our elected officials in Salem don't act like the United States Congress. But seriously, Congress kind of sucks right now. So join us for good food, strong drinks, and a damn good time at our 2014 State of the Union Watch Party. And it won't just be us nerding out over all things political! We have friends coming to add some value and depth to the conversation. So if you're totally in love with.... Urban League of Portland Young Professionals Common Cause Oregon Native American Youth and Family Center Portland African American Leadership Forum Causa Oregon ..then you don't want to miss out on this soiree! NOTE: We won't be as fancy as a soiree, but we will capitalize on opportunities to use big words. http://www.facebook.com/events/262316953922769/

The Oregon Public House is a completely non-profit pub that donates all of its net profits to charities. Fences For Fido has a unique opportunity to become one of those charities for all of 2014. Every relationship begins with a first date, right? Well, on Monday, Sep 9 we need ALL of YOU to come to Oregon Public House for a meal and and brew to show them how many local passionate (and hungry) supporters we have! Our goal is to raise enough money to get on the list for all of 2014, which includes extra perks. No matter how much we raise on Sep 9, it will all come to FFF to help us unchain fidos. Just like the motto of OPH, let's all "Have a Pint Change the World". Vegan friendly menu, kid friendly restaurant, dogs welcome at sidewalk seating. http://www.facebook.com/events/159240684266531/
