Join us for a fun day of four trainings in preparation for the Global Climate Convergence Action (coming up on April 28th) There will be Creative Action Planning, Affinity Group Formation, Creative Media for Actions + one more TBD. The idea behind this training is not just to build skills but to build relationships and soon Affinity Groups or AGs. These small groups of activists who work well together and trust each other are the basis of much effective direct actions. We hope to help folks form up and get ready to shut down the fossil fuel industry here in the NW. 11AM Affinity Group Formation: What's an Affinity Group, why we use them, why their important and how to form them effectively. 12 - Creative Action Planning: Have you been to a protest or two and wanted to get better at organizing them? Have you been bored on a march chanting slogans? This is for you. This training will help give ideas and tools to plan your own effective and awesome actions from purely symbolic to directly stopping earth destroyers. If you're looking for arrestable or no risk of arrest at all actions, this one's for you. 1:30 PM - Media for actions: This will take you through the process of working with mainstream media & a bit of social media for an action. Leveraging mass media well can make actions more effective, better attended and help meet your campaign goals. After this workshop you'll feel empowered to talk to the media, give interviews and get mass media to come to your events & actions. Bring a notebook and lunch. We'll bring some snacks and coffee!

Portland Rising Tide will be facilitating a planning meeting for actions in coordination with the Global Climate Convergence (http://globalclimateconvergence.org). The bulk of the meeting will involve planning the mass action in downtown Portland April 28th (description below) and encouraging individuals or groups to plug in to various aspects of it. The time between 6:30-7pm has been marked for check-ins and agenda items, so please do not hesitate to show up late if necessary. For more info, contact portland@risingtidenorthamerica.org ------ Join Portland Rising Tide and others Monday, April 28th for a mass action in downtown Portland to highlight the farce of regulatory agencies that work hand in hand with the fossil fuel industry; and to show that the people will step up to enforce our urgent demand: “Coal, Oil, Gas – None Shall Pass!” Governor Kitzhaber and his agencies including the State Land Board, DEQ, DSL, and ODOT have been complicit in issuing permits for coal and oil terminals in Oregon. Now they are being asked to approve the west coast’s first Natural Gas export terminal and a 350+ mile pipeline to Coos Bay, OR. This action will be held in conjunction with the Global Climate Convergence; an international call for “10 days to change course” between Earth Day and May Day; marked with direct actions and/or demonstrations highlighting the joint struggles of labor and climate justice. (http://globalclimateconvergence.org/) Details TBA. We are inviting groups or individuals who wish to plug in to attend our open planning meeting: Monday, 4/7 6:30pm Laughing Horse Books (12 NE 10th Ave). Also, we need your help to spread the word about this and other upcoming events - please invite all of your facebook friends who might be interested (https://www.facebook.com/events/1511072169120298/ ) and stay tuned for opportunities to flyer! -------

We're excited after the Columbia River Climate Action and we've got big plans for the rest of the summer. We hope you can help us organize against the fossil fuel industry! The action on July 27th was just a beginning. We symbolically blockaded the river to demonstrate our willingness to participate in nonviolent direct action to prevent these terminals from being constructed should they move forward anywhere in our region. Portland Rising Tide is hosting an orientation to learn more about our work and how to get involved. During this gathering we will discuss the onslaught of fossil fuel export terminals proposed in our region. We will also talk about the work of Rising Tide to oppose these terminals, climate justice and direct action and how you can plug-in as an organizer and a participant. Come learn more about the movement to confront the root causes of the climate crisis and how you can get involved! http://www.facebook.com/events/179234118923155/
