ANNOUNCEMENT OF A CONFERENCE ON HEALTH CARE REFORM Imagine: never having to worry that you would be completely cared for in the event of an accident or illness; never having to bargain with your employer over health care benefits or threats to your wages due to increasing health insurance premiums; not being faced with service cuts in police, fire, education and other public services due to the pressure on state, county and municipal budgets from the increasing burden of health care costs. This conference will explain how we can enjoy these securities as the residents of Canada and all other industrialized nations do. In Oregon, even after the expansion of coverage through OHP and Cover Oregon, there will still be many without insurance or with inadequate insurance in the case of a serious illness. There is a way out of this: single payer/universal health care. Come to a free conference that will reveal how it is affordable and achievable and will benefit all Oregonians. Refreshments will be available. Gerald Friedman is a Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts. Also present will be Janet Bauer of the Oregon Center for Public Policy and Fernando Gapasin of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance and UAW Local 1981.
