Joe has a very approachable lecture style. A tour guide and writer, his wit and ease with people make him an accessible speaker. This month he will discuss the things that Portland planned to do and build that never happened. Kind of like that deck in my backyard or the second floor on my studio, but on a bigger scale. Bridges, buildings, and parks change a city. Imagine if we had a freeway that went all the way from downtown to the mountains? How would that have changed things? Come ponder the Portland that might have been if these plans had been actualized. July 30: NO LECTURE: Why not? We are hosting the PNW House Music Festival. All regular events postponed. August 6: Speaker Finn JD John presents on "The History of the KKK in Oregon." Please come out to this lecture. In the early 20th century, The KKK had a strong presence in state and local governemnt and even marched in the Rose Parade. Although their presence here was short-lived, the affects of their influence has been long lasting on our city. Finn is a dedicated local historian, author, and educator with a great sense of humor and ease at the mic. August 13: Speaker: Tracy Prince, PhD Topic: " A Hollow, a Creek, and a War about Geese; The history of Goose Hollow." Join author and historian Tracy Prince, PhD, Scholar in Residence at the Portland Center for Public Humanities as she shares stories and history about Goose Hollow Neighborhood. Learn about how the area got its name, uncover Tanner Creek and more! August 20: Speaker: Doug Kenck-Crispen of Oregon Kick Ass History! Topic: "When Oregon was British". That's right, Oregon was once under the rule of the British Crown. John McLoughlin, the "Father of Oregon", was British. This is a really fascinating chapter of our state history and Doug will no doubt deliver it with the vim and vigor it deserves. Come for laughs, tawdry tales and don't mind the f-bombs, Doug is an grade A public historian dedicated to community education. August 29: 6:30 Lecture: Speaker: Amanda Caffail Topic: "The Artic Ocean." 7:30 Lecture Speaker: Joe Streckert Love Tuesday Night Free Lectures and want to help? Our mission is to provide space for the curious to meet with the passionate to share ideas and information in a comfortable, low-key environment. Think of a (very) liberal arts college where they serve whiskey and listen to rock and roll. We invite people to have fun, meet some people, and learn some things. All inquiries to:
