The Louis Armstrong Celebration was born in Portland in 2015 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Louis Armstrong's free concerts from the roof of the Lloyd Shopping Mall in NE Portland in 1965. The influence of Louis Armstrong as a musician is global and transcends musical styles, including singing styles. There are a profusion of myths, legends and tales that have varying degrees of truth, from zero to quite-a-lot. There are many reasons to celebrate Louis Armstrong - any jazz musician worth the name will quickly agree. More than a musician, it's time to celebrate America's greatest 20th century ambassador of joy. SCHEDULE 8pm - 10pm : Concert The musicians : John MOAK - trombone David EVANS - clarinet, tenor saxophone Charlie PORTER - trumpet Garner PRUITT - cornet Doug SAMMONS - guitar, banjo, vocals Ken ANOE - bass, tuba Randy PORTER - piano Tim RAP - drums
