An Evening with the Tar Sands Valve-Turners - "Stepping Outside Polite Conversation" Wednesday Evening, November 16th Doors--6:30. Conversation--7:00. Sunnyside Community House 3520 SE Yamhill St. Portland 97214 (ramp entrance to the east) Busses 15 and 75 or carpool, limited parking (all on-street). We are raising funds for the Valve-Turners' legal defense. $10 donation at the door...No one will be turned away for lack of funds. On October 11th, at five Tar Sands oil entry sites, Emily, Michael, Annette, Leonard, and Ken took extraordinary climate action; they stopped the flow of fossil fuel. Sadly, it is illegal to attempt to rescue our special planet. Join us to hear the Tar Sands Valve-Turners share stories of their non-violent direct actions and why their climate activism escalated to this shut-down as they launch their pre-trial journey. www.shutitdown.today ---- "Like mothers everywhere, I act from a deep love for my own children that extends out to all children and young people, and all living beings on this planet." --Annette Klapstein "...for years...we've tried the legal, incremental, reasonable methods, and they haven't been anything like enough; without a radical shift in our relationship to this Earth, all that we love will disappear." --Emily Johnston "I am here to generate action that wakes people up to the reality of what we are doing to life as we know it. All of our climate victories are meaningless if we don't stop extracting oil, coal, and gas now." --Michael Foster "I am committed to the moral necessity of participating in nonviolent direct action to protect life." --Leonard Higgins "Our only hope is to step outside polite conversation and put our bodies and ourselves in the way." --Ken Ward https://www.facebook.com/events/965015893627554/
