The Village Building Convergence is an annual celebration of placemaking, community, permaculture, natural building, music, and art. A project of City Repair, the VBC is a vehicle through which neighbors come together to plan, create, and implement tangible lasting projects. After designing their project, neighbors work together with other community volunteers to complete them. The things created can be quite diverse, but they all fill an identified community need and help to create a unique sense of place. We see the creations of past VBCs throughout Portland- they can be painted intersections, community benches and information kiosks of cob and wood, mosiac benches, community gardens, natural buildings, and more. There are more than 35 projects to be created this year. Daytime: We come together at sites around the city to create natural building, permaculture, and public art projects. These include benches, community kiosks, gardens, street paintings, tile mosaics, and more! Neighbors have been collaboratively designing these projects for months, creating community with each other in the process. People come from near and far to learn skills and help bring these designs to life, while celebrating creativity and diversity! This part of the event is free. Evening: We gather at a central venue for a night of wholesome food, presentations by leaders in the forefront of positive change, and exhilarating musical performances from local bands and DJ's. Workshops - natural building, sustainable urban design, permaculture, community, creating social capital Organic Food, World Changing Organizations, Health and Wellbeing Space, and more!
