Tis the season and Hood River, Oregon is the place to be. Known as the “Holiday Town of Oregon,” downtown Hood River is ready again this year to transform into a classic holiday setting. Along the main street, visitors will find beautifully lit holiday trees, decorated storefronts, and lots of unique shopping options—including handmade items, beautiful clothing, jewelry, sports gear, books and art, and local wines, jams, and jellies. The kick-off party happens the first Friday of December, with an old-fashioned parade, lighting of the community tree, caroling, cocoa and cookies, and, of course, Santa. Hood River Holidays will begin on December 5th, and continue through the 24th.
Friday, October 31, 2014 from 5-7pm
As part of their annual celebration of Halloween, Hood River merchants will welcome ghouls and goblins from 5-7pm on October 31. To ensure a “Safe Halloween” time for everyone, the City of Hood River will close Oak Street between 1st and 6th streets, as well as the connecting side streets north of State Street and south of Cascade Avenue. Free parking is available from 5-7pm at the Mt. Hood Railroad parking lot. During Safe Halloween, many merchants throughout all of downtown (not just in the street-closure area) will close their businesses but remain on site at the front of their stores to greet and treat costumed young people. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children, and take care when crossing the streets, as people may need to move parked vehicles during the closure period
