Portland State University graduate Carolyn Gage’s award-winning, feminist, one-woman show, The Second Coming of Joan of Arc, is coming to Portland! The performance will introduce Boston actor Julia Reddy on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 4:00 PM in PSU’s 75 Lincoln Hall. The play, which depicts Joan of Arc as a lesbian runaway returning to earth to tell us about her experience, is part of A Dialogue Series Event presented by PSU’s University Studies, Pan-African Commons, and the School of Music & Theater. The Portland State University performance is part of a larger project focused on Joan of Arc. In a landmark collaboration, Portland Youth Philharmonic’s chamber orchestra, Camerata PYP, will present Voices of Light in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Friday, January 26. Joan of Arc is still a important cultural icon after nearly six centuries, and she remains relevant to discussions of misogyny today. The Second Coming of Joan of Arc performance is FREE for PSU students, faculty and staff, as well as for Voices of Light ticketholders. A $5 donation will be asked of all others at the door with no one turned away for lack of funds. A Q & A with the playwright and actor will follow the performance. Voices of Light tickets start at just $5 for students of any age. Visit portlandyouthphil.org to purchase tickets and for more details about both performances. Voices of Light and its auxiliary events are made possible in part by the Fred W. Fields Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, an Art Works award from the National Endowment for the Arts, and local gifts from Ronni Lacroute and The Boeing Company.
