It brings together travelers staying in our hostel with local bicycle enthusiasts, families and neighbors to celebrate bicycle culture and it's contribution to a more peaceful planet. This event is free and open to all and part of Hostelling International's Sleep for Peace Program. Sleep for Peace is a global initiative by Hostelling International since 2013; that reinforces the message that youth hostelling contributes to building peace on a day-to-day basis through the peace-building benefits of travel and intercultural understanding amongst young people at home and abroad. The United Nations has designated the 21 September as the International Day of Peace and the 27 September as World Tourism Day, creating the ideal setting for Hostelling International and all its members to celebrate their year-long peace-building activities through a series of activities and events throughout the week. This Event also supports the Rising from Ashes Foundation (http://www.rfafoundation.org/) whom believes the bicycle—and cycling as a pursuit—is widely accessible, easily transportable, rapidly disseminated and a universal engine of both economic and personal empowerment. Simply, you can go further on a bike. In practice, the Rising from Ashes Foundation uses documentary storytelling to inspire and educate global audiences into meaningful action, to raise vital resources for our cycling programs on the ground in Africa, and to apply the ideals of conflict resolution within their own communities.
