Would you like to learn how to: Mix local soil, sand, and straw to make cob? Use traditional earthen construction techniques? Build durable walls from cob? Witness a building design inspired by wet and windy Wales. Join our volunteer project to create a beautiful cob building for the Learning Garden! Weekly work parties led by natural building instructor, Bernhard Masterson. Come learn new skills and make new friends this summer! Bernhard’s instructor bio: Bernhard Masterson is a consummate natural builder who fuses a deep commitment to sustainable systems and a rich sense of aesthetics to create unique structures. Trained as a sculptor and educator Bernhard has focused on natural building since 2002. He integrates straw-bale, cob, slip-straw and other techniques to build cottages, studios, rocket mass heaters, earth ovens and Rumford fireplaces. Bernhard is a positive and insightful teacher who derives deep satisfaction from empowering others to pursue their visions.
