Description

Remember when the worst thing you could imagine was being kept after class? My, how things have changed! At Kennedy School, you'll never want to leave. Here you can have a pint in a classroom, enjoy an aged whiskey and a cigar in detention, enjoy a movie in the old auditorium.... The possibilities here are endless. (Just don't run in the hallways, please. You might spill your beer.) Since its 1915 opening, this historic elementary school has been a beloved fixture of its Northeast Portland neighborhood. McMenamins renovated the once-abandoned scholastic gem and turned it into Portland's most unique hotel. Here you'll find 57 comfy guestrooms with private baths and telephones (some fashioned from former classrooms complete with original chalkboards and cloakrooms – others with an author's theme), a restaurant, multiple small bars, a movie theater, soaking pool, gift shop and a brewery (just wait until the principal hears about this!). Extensive original artwork and historical photographs cover the walls, ceilings, doorways and hallways. For neighborhood residents, out-of-town guests and business travelers, Kennedy School is a memorable and comfortable place to gather. The hotel is located minutes from Portland International Airport as well as to shopping in downtown Portland. Kennedy School allows pets at the tables in front of the hotel, served by the Courtyard Restaurant, and in hotel rooms for a $15 fee. The Kennedy School is now part of the Brewvana Brewery Tours!

Presented by: EagleHeart Music in alliance with Red Lodge Transition Services EagleHeart Music Presents: Tony EagleHeart Garcia CD Release Party EagleHeart Music is pleased to announce the release of Tony EagleHeart Garcia’s CD: Native American Gratitude Tony EagleHeart Garcia has been singing and playing music almost all of his life. In the 60’s and 70’s he performed in coffee houses, clubs and concerts in the San Francisco Bay Area where he had the honor of performing with many bands of that era including the Grateful Dead, Santana, Jefferson Starship and the Youngbloods. Tony is deeply rooted in indigenous life. He was raised by his native nation, the Tarasco people of Mexico. His given name is Cante Wambli which means Eagle Heart in Lakota. Tony's original contemporary Native American music draws from all genres celebrating life, family and his spiritual connection to indigenous ways of being with respect to nature, his primary sources of inspiration. He writes about nature, justice, love, respect, unity and faith. Tony is always striving to grow, learn and share the findings of his truth through conversation, music and storytelling which is a part of native culture that weaves the fabric of existence. Tony’s philosophy is simple: Life is sacred, a blessing and Creator's sacred gift. He writes about nature, justice, love, respect, unity and faith. Tony seeks an abundant blanket of gifts to share with family, friends and the people in gratitude, rather than fame or excessive financial fortune. His deepest desire is to share this experience of love and understanding as he walks on this Sacred path. Red Lodge Transition Services is a non-profit grass roots organization supported by volunteers who have experience working with men and women in prison. Their primary objective is to assist Native men and women who are ready to transition from prison and jail back to community. Red Lodge Transition Services is working to identify barriers and educate people about what they can do to prepare for re-entry. Their mission is to prevent incarceration and reduce recidivism primarily among Native American women and men. To provide assistance for individuals released from jails and prisons who are working on creating a better life for themselves, their children, and communities. To supply transition information, guidance and support to Native American individuals, families and communities. To prevent and reduce incarceration by breaking the cycle of chemical addiction, violence, abuse, hatred, hopelessness and neglect.
