A celebration of 20 years of the Institute for Anarchist Studies (IAS), an organization that gives grants to radical writers, publishes its journal, Perspectives on Anarchist Theory, and co-publishes books with AK Press, while engaging in educational activities. Portland’s FREE, ALL AGES, and non-profit festival PDX Pop Now!, returns with performances from 43 Portland artists including special high school band sets curated by Friends of Noise. Muertos PDX is excited to announce that we are returning to AudioCinema on Sunday, November 1st for the 7th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Celebration! Please join us as we come together to remember our loved ones that have passed on. Visit the altars, decorate a sugar skull, or come to dance the night away to live music!! All ages are welcome! We will have activities for children throughout the event! Entry is $5 at the door and children 12 and under are free! Enjoy musical performances, children’s storytimes, calavera decorating stations, piñatas, traditional Mexican cuisine, and a muerto parade! And remember, this is also a food drive for our community, so please bring nonperishable food items to donate! We look forward to seeing lots of muertos there! Taking place under the Hawthorne bridge at AudioCinema, the festival will feature two outdoor stages, a record fair, street fair, food carts, and the annual band on band basketball tournament Rigsketball. Showcasing a sampling of some of the best Portland musicians across a variety of genres—including hip hop, metal, folk, pop—the 12th annual festival furthers our commitment to being accessible, current, and local. Partnering with the Portland music advocacy non-profit, Music in The Schools, the festival will feature curated sets by high school musicians including Amber Moon, Arbo, and Dad Rock.
