Lincoln County Community Rights and its allied organization Citizens for a Healthy County, are proud to present: Roy Keene, life-long forester and activist for sustainable forestry, in a talk at the Yachats Commons, on Friday July 17, 2015, from 6 to 9 p.m., addressing: -chemical deforestation -today’s industrial forests - a model of sustainable community forestry for Lincoln County. A forest tour illustrating the previous evening’s talk will follow on Saturday, July 18, at 10:00 a.m. Details will be discussed after the talk. Biographical information: "Roy Keene is a third generation Westerner with 45 years of regional forestry experience and activism. He helped restrict pesticides on federal land in the 1970's; provided leadership in securing 1.3 million wilderness acres in the 1980’s; and helped design the first industrial forest certification system and the first federal ecosystem management plan in the 1990’s. Since then, Roy has sought ways to reform industrial logging and unfair timber taxes. He has published over a hundred forestry editorials and articles and traveled literally a million miles through western forests. Roy still works as a private forest consultant. Our Forests, a 501c3 organization promotes honesty, transparency, and fairness in the human use of forests." The event is free, but donations are needed and will be gladly accepted.
