Spend a summer Saturday running a One Day Relay within minutes of Portland. This 65 mile, 12 leg running event incorporates the full length of the Banks-Vernonia State Trail as well as the surrounding area of rural Washington County. Take in a bit of Oregon history while enjoying natures best in the Pacific NW. Team sizes consist of 6 (or less) runners. The Banks-Vernonia Trail, Oregon's first rail-to-trail is a multi-use trail paved over a decades-old train bed. Get ready to be impressed by the beauty of this course. The tree-lined paved trail takes you through gorgeous meadows and across crystal clear streams. You'll cross no less than twelve historical bridges, some on wooden trestles. Centrally located merely 26 miles west of Portland, the quiet, natural beauty of this course will surprise and delight you.
Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 8am-1pm
If you have never run or cycled in the Chehalem Mountain area in rural Washington and Yamhill Counties, you are in for a real treat. Miles of country roads (including 6 miles unpaved) wind through a breathtaking forested setting and past peaceful, scenic farmlands. As you head south from the start on McCormick Hill Road, take a deep breath ...or a few... in preparation for over 800 feet of elevation gain in the first two miles. After that enjoy the gorgeous scenery, rolling hills and many smaller (yet still challenging) climbs that give way to sweeping views of the Willamette Valley. Then, get psyched for the last big climb of the day… over 300 feet in the last half mile leading you to the delicious pancakes and bacon waiting for you at the finish line. If you want a break from more traditional road racing and are not afraid of the challenge this course offers then this race is for you. Remember, the feeling of conquering the hills is unbeatable!
