Introduction to “Activist Circles” Date/Time: Monday, May 11, 2015, 11:30 am - 1 pm Location: 2249 E. Burnside, Portland OR 97214 Activist circles emerged over the past few decades to provide spaces for restoration, self-reflection, and learning. Small groups of individual activists and organizers engage in confidential facilitated dialogues to express current concerns in their work, share wisdom gained from experience, and support each other. Circles can meet weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on members’ needs. They may consist of activists in the same sector or across sectors. Participants report experiencing renewed hope, less isolation, and better perspective. Bring your lunch and experience a brief sample of an activist circle, followed by a chance to inquire about possibilities for organizing your own activist circle in Portland. Facilitated by Tod Sloan, scholar/activist and sponsored by the Cascadia Center for Social Ecology, whose mission is to support activists and their groups in ways that make their work more enjoyable and effective.
