Strike Debt Portland
In 2012, Strike Debt (http://strikedebt.org/) came from a coalition of Occupy groups looking to build popular resistance to all forms of debt imposed on us by the banks. Debt keeps us isolated, ashamed, and afraid.

Agenda: 3-4 pm Social: Please bring a current news or opinion article about debt to discuss. 4-5 pm: Meeting: We'll be reporting back on our efforts of Street Theater this summer, updating on fundraising efforts for the Daniel Hong Strike Debt Portland Scholarship, looking at outreach opportunities, and hopefully welcoming lots of new and returning members. 5-6 pm Potluck: Feel free to bring a dish to pass. Mission Statement: Strike Debt Portland builds a movement of strikers resisting all forms of oppressive debt and demands economic alternatives that benefit the common good. We work to redefine “debt” so that our societal debt obligations are to our friends, our families, our communities and our civic values, not to the banks or the 1%. Our General Meetings are free, open to the public and are held 4th Saturdays of every month. Join us for our next General Meeting. Agenda is currently TBA. We are a local affiliate of the national Strike Debt movement. (www.strikedebt.org)

Don't Fret! Know Your Debt! This is a free, family-friendly event! A Debtors' Assembly is: A gathering of people united by the burden of owed finances. At Strike Debt (from Occupy Wall St. in NYC), we heard the people share a common dread of accumulating medical debt, student debt, consumer debt and/or "fringe finance." Debt holds back people's futures in their own homes, health, education, and dreams. Banks and creditors are well organized to make profit on loopholes with hidden fees and creeping interests at the expense of us. We are not a loan. We have a right to pursuit to happiness. We have the right to assemble and access inventories of our debt, our morals, and our futures! So, what will it take to overcome the schemes to keep people, cities and countries indebted? And how can we dig our communities out of these systemic chains?... All this and more at Portland's first ever Debtors' Assembly! Come make history with us! FREE FOOD and FREE ENTERTAINMENT! (Talented Greggory Stockert will be preforming!)
