Summer is finally here! It’s time to get out and enjoy all the natural beauty Oregon has to offer. Why not make the most of your time outdoors by helping your friends and neighbors keep our state clean and green with SOLVE? SOLVE events are a fun, easy way to improve our environment, meet your neighbors and spend quality time outdoors with family and friends. Best of all our projects are family-friendly, open to all, and no experience is necessary. Our volunteer leaders bring the tools and the plan, but we need you to make it work! Great projects happening this week! Join a Last Saturday Weed Warrior Service Project for June - Portland http://solveoregon.org/get-involved/events/join-last-saturday-weed-warrior-service-project-june Friends of Woods Memorial Park June Restoration Event - Portland http://solveoregon.org/get-involved/events/friends-woods-memorial-park-june-restoration-event Brentwood Darlington Neighborhood Celebration - Portland http://solveoregon.org/get-involved/events/brentwood-darlington-neighborhood-celebration Spending just a few hours removing litter or invasive plants from our neighborhoods and natural areas, or planting native trees and shrubs, makes a big difference for wildlife, water quality, and communities. Sign up to get involved today! Visit our full calendar of events which shows projects happening year round, or contact SOLVE at 503-844-9571 ext. 332 or info@solveoregon.org. P.S. There’s still time to register to lead a project during our Beach and Riverside Cleanup, presented by the Oregon Lottery on September 23rd. contact us at 503-844-9571 ext 317, or visit solveoregon.org to learn more!

You provide a little sweat, we provide the snacks, the tools, and the fun! Become part of a team that not only gets to shape our refuge but also make a visible difference to the important species it supports. Sometimes our volunteers even get to venture to parts of the Refuge that are closed to the public. And, as with all our volunteer opportunities, come meet some new people and commune with nature! We host Wednesday Work Parties every Wednesday. Feel free to drop in once, or every week.

Last summer, thanks to the hard work of over 95 individual volunteers, we pulled close to 24,000 ricefield bulrush (schoenoplectus mucronatus) plants in our efforts to eradicate this Class A (Washington State) invasive species. It is back! If you are interested in a great opportunity to learn wetland plants, meet like-minded folks, experience ecological restoration first hand, and have fun outdoors this summer, we need you. We will meet every Wednesday and Saturday at 9 am in the River 'S' Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge through the middle of September. Wear long pants, rubber boots if you have them, and bring sunscreen and a refillable water bottle. We provide the tools (and some boots to borrow if necessary), snacks, and water. We end our work parties around 12:30 pm. Bring your friends and family. For more information, please email sean_davis@fws.gov.
