How to Imbue Your Life with More Meaning, More Joy + More Connection. We will use time, attention, connection + currency as constraints to help you create your own quest. Taught by Melea Seward Cost: It's $75 to enroll. At the end of the course, you will pay a second installment, the amount of which is completely up to you ($0 +), but reflects the value you received and the effort you created. Space is limited to 25 participants. In Create Your Own Quest, we will discover ways to imbue your limited time on this planet with more joy, more meaning, and more connection. We will use TIME, ATTENTION, CONNECTION, and CURRENCY as constraints to help you create your own quest. In literature and films, quests often involve extensive travel and adventure, but your quest can also happen in your backyard, in your neighborhood, in your city, or on the web. Whether you want to visit every National Park in your lifetime, meet everyone who shares your first name in your zip code, or paint more, this course may be for you. Want to revive and pursue a dream that has faded? This is a great course to revisit and explore what is possible. Week 1: Thinking Bigger: Assessing What Is + Exploring the Possible As a culture, it seems we’re obsessed with life hacks, habits, and getting more done while spending less time on the doing. As adults, we tend to organize our lives around ATTENTION (what we pay attention to), CONNECTION (who we pay attention to), TIME (how we organize our days, weeks, month, years), and CURRENCY (how we pay for our lives, usually in some equation that factors in time and money). In this first class we will assess what is important to us and explore the possible. Week 2: Motion, Preparation + Divergence Luck favors the prepared. In the second week, we will look at famous and not-so-famous quests — we will break down how ordinary people have used constraints of time, space, place, money, and more to create more luck, or what I like to call, serendipity engines. It is difficult to stumble on an idea while seated, so we will look at ways to create more movement in your everyday life and prepare for the outcomes you’re interested in. Week 3: Commitment, Activation + Optimizing Connections How do you commit to an idea? How do you choose? In week three, through guided homework, readings, class discussion, and small group work, we will work on optimizing your connections with people and ideas. Week 4: Surprise + Delight Week four will be a co-facilitated class between the participants. You have to show up to see what happens. Melea Seward, Professional Generalist, is a communications and strategy consultant, speaker, improvisational storyteller and writer. She creates time-bound, rule-based projects and games that explore performance in everyday life. Most recently, she created Board of Us, a playful facilitation tool that she uses in her consulting work with clients ranging from soloprenuers and small business owners to established nonprofit organizations and multinational companies, including NBC, HBO, Shore Fire Media, Elixir Design and Girls for Gender Equity.

Portland Peaceful Response Coalition has held weekly rallies since November of 2001 at Pioneer Courthouse Square, shortly after the US invasion of Afghanistan. The rallies focus on human rights issues domestic (police abuse, houselessness, racism, spying) and international (US wars, Israel/Palestine, drone warfare, fair trade vs. "free trade"). Join PPRC and the Peace and Justice Works Iraq Affinity Group to mark 800 weeks (just over 15 years) of marching!

Please come meet with other Buddhists to brainstorm and organize to champion right speech and right action in a time when white supremacy and hatred are the hallmarks of our government. How we can we stand together as Buddhists for compassion? We will begin with a guided meditation and then discuss some questions. We will set an agenda that reflects the priorities of those present. We may break into small discussion groups. Are we united in pursuing non-violence as a strategy for political change? If not, what other strategies do we support? If so, how do we support non-violence and honor the justifiable rage of poor people, old people, disabled people, people of color, immigrants, Muslims, climate justice activists, LGBTQ, unhoused people, and others? Which non-Buddhist groups in our local area inspire us and give us hope? Do we want to be visible as a Buddhist presence at events organized by those groups? If so, how shall we identify ourselves at such events? Do we want to organize additional actions, events, rallies, or protests? If so, who will take the lead in this? Other questions? Suggestions for communication with each other? Feel free to bring your own lunch. Snacks not provided.

Peace and Justice Works Iraq Affinity Group is co-sponsoring the Friday, March 17 Portland Peaceful Response Coalition Friday Rally with the theme "The Quagmire Continues: 14 Years in Iraq." The rally begins at 5 PM at Pioneer Courthouse Square, SW Yamhill and Morrison, with a march around downtown beginning at about 5:20 PM. The US invaded Iraq on March 19, 2003. Even though most of the troops were withdrawn in 2011, they never left completely. With the US' war against the Islamic State starting in August 2014, there are now over 5000 troops in Iraq as "advisors," drone and conventional aircraft bombings, and, with the world's largest embassy, an unending occupation.Although March 2017 marks 14 years since the Iraq War began, one also can look at Jan. 1991-- the start of "Gulf War Part 1"-- as the start of what has now been over 25 years of US hostilities in Iraq. Meanwhile, though sanctions were put in place against the late Saddam Hussein's regime in 1990 to force Iraq to repay Kuwait for their invasion of that country, Iraq still has to make payments despite its dire financial and political situation. Making matters worse, Donald Trump told NBC on January 25: "We should've kept the oil when we got out"-- as if the US had the right to take Iraq's oil. For more information or to endorse or otherwise support this event contact Peace and Justice Works Iraq Affinity Group at 503-236-3065 or iraq@pjw.info ; PPRC's weekly rally notice can be found at .
