"We the People Are More Powerful Than We Dare to Believe: First Steps in Dismantling Corporate Rule” Are you freaking out more than usual over these past few months about the state of our nation, and wondering whether our activism could become a LOT more effective at challenging corporate rule than it currently appears to be (and yes it certainly could!) this workshop may be for YOU. There are now more than 200 communities and counties in nine states that have successfully passed locally-enforceable Community Rights ordinances, banning a whole variety of harmful corporate activities. We could do this here too! But first we would need to build up the numbers of local people who are fluent in Community Rights strategy. There’s a very affordable sliding scale. No prior experience is necessary. Click the link for all the details....http://paulcienfuegos.com/node/91

Apple Jam Music Festival is a grassroots event in Southern Oregon that has been growing exponentially over the last 8 years. AJMF strives to strengthen the community by bringing together local businesses, artists, and most importantly great music from the PNW and beyond! Apple Jam is the best, and most affordable, 3-day music festival in the area. With high caliber musical entertainment, free camping, amazing food & craft vendors, and a breathtaking landscape surrounding the site, it truly provides an enjoyable experience for all. This year the expected turn-out is 5,000 people. AJMF also partners with a local nonprofit (ACCESS Food Share) that focuses on providing food for families in need.

Summer’s almost upon us again, which means that your favorite neighborhood ciclovia is right around the corner! City of Portland Sunday Parkways, presented by Kaiser Permanente, is a series of five community events that promote healthy living by opening the city's largest public space - its streets - for people to walk, bike, roll, and discover active transportation! Besides all the active outdoor fun, the events strive to foster civic pride, stimulate economic development, and represent the investments that communities, businesses and government bodies are making in Portland's vitality, livability, and diversity. Last year over 100,000 people attended the events, with 250+ volunteers making it all possible. The first event of the season is coming up in Southeast Portland on May 21st, and we need your help to make it a success! Here’s how we need your help... • Mobile Superheroes to ride the route on your bike, keeping a watchful eye on the neighborhood and backing up the Intersection Superheroes. • Intersection Superheroes to command the barricades, making sure participants are safe from cars and neighbors are happy. Each shift lasts no longer than 3.5 hours, but you may sign up for more than one! ...and here’s how we show our appreciation! Every Sunday Parkways volunteer receives: • an HEATHER PURPLE Sunday Parkways volunteer t-shirt • refreshments before your shift • support before, during and after the event • a 2017 Sunday Parkways bandanna - volunteer for any three Sunday Parkways shifts across the season and it's yours! FOR MORE INFO AND TO SIGN UP: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/transportation/67621 Are you interested in helping with Sunday Parkways but May 21st doesn't work for your schedule? Volunteer for one of the other Sunday Parkways events on: • 6/25/2017 in North Portland • 7/23/2017 in Northeast Portland • 8/20/2017 in Outer Northeast • 9/24/2017 in Sellwood/ Milwaukie More information on these upcoming events can be found here: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/transportation/58929 See you in Southeast Portland! You provide a little sweat, we provide the snacks, the tools, and the fun! Become part of a team that not only gets to shape our refuge but also make a visible difference to the important species it supports. Sometimes our volunteers even get to venture to parts of the Refuge that are closed to the public. And, as with all our volunteer opportunities, come meet some new people and commune with nature! We host Wednesday Work Parties every Wednesday. Feel free to drop in once, or every week.
