Please join Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant at a rally in Portland for her re-election campaign! Mark your calendar now! https://www.facebook.com/events/1596082527348052/

Since her election in 2013, Councilmember Sawant has electrified the opposition to the corporate agenda in the Pacific Northwest. An unapologetic fighter for working people, she refuses all corporate donations and accepts only the average worker's wage. Her re-election will prove again that it is completely possible to elect candidates who reject corporate cash. Kshama Sawant has inspired movements across the country, including in Portland, such as the $15 Now movement, by delivering on her campaign promise to make Seattle the first major city to pass a $15/hour minimum wage less than six months after she took office. Now Kshama is tackling head-on the crisis of skyrocketing rents by fighting for rent control, for a Tenants’ Bill of Rights, and for the city to build thousands of high-quality apartments rented at below-market rates. She is working to fully fund a world-class public transit system, and to implement Municipal Broadband as an alternative to the Comcast and Centurylink monopolies. As a representative of working people, Kshama does not take a penny in corporate cash. While the rest of the City Council pays themselves $120,000/year, Councilmember Sawant takes only the average worker’s wage and donates the remainder to a Solidarity Fund to help build social justice movements. As Kshama recently said on Democracy Now, "Polls show the vast majority of the U.S. is to the left of the political choices presented. It's our responsibility to fill the vacuum to the left of the Democratic Party by building a political alternative for working people."

That is why corporations across the country are funding her opponents' campaigns. We in Portland absolutely need to support her historic re-election. Mark your calendar, invite your friends, and join us at this rally and fundraiser!
